About the customer

Niedersachsen Ports owns and operates five seaports, seven island supply ports and three regional ports on the German North Sea coast. With over 2,700 hectares of port space on Lower Saxony’s North Sea coast, the company ensures the smooth flow of traffic between sea and land.

The company is headquartered in Oldenburg. With its branches in Brake, Cuxhaven, Emden, Norden and Wilhelmshaven, as well as the supply ports for the East Frisian Islands, Niedersachsen Ports manages the port infrastructure in the major seaports of the state of Lower Saxony and thus offers services for a large number of port locations from a single source.

The ports of Niedersachsen Ports handle around 28.3 million tons of seaborne goods per year, 42,000 ship calls and 9.5 million passengers.

Challenge

As part of a digitization initiative, maintenance worker management, employee management, and project management and control were to be digitized and standardized.

"Within the company-wide project to digitize NPorts' internal organization, a significant milestone was achieved with the introduction of Infor EAM in the area of maintenance and repair management."

Solution

The processes were first analyzed and standardized as part of the digtalization initiative. The roles involved were defined and assigned to the respective employees.

The digital workflow of the Hexagon EAM takes over the control of the defined processes with the integration of the use of mobile devices. The planning of the use of capacities (internal and external personnel, material, equipment) is carried out by integrating the capacities into the digital order planning and coordination. In addition, the detailed recording of the ACTUAL hours per person and device as well as the material used takes place.

The transparency required for the detailed recording of ACTUAL costs (internal and external costs, material, tools, etc.) is achieved through the integration of Hexagon EAM and Infor LN as a commercial system.

The use of Hexagon EAM in a uniform form for all branches provides management with a transparent overview of all activities within NPorts.

For employees, the use of Hexagon EAM, also in conjunction with the use of mobile devices, means a high gain in effectiveness. In addition, less effort is required for data entry, and the information required for the work to be performed can be accessed online in a targeted manner.

The digital workflow and the stored checks ensure that the legally required regulations for the work are complied with and that the required documentation is created in a legally compliant manner.

The cross-branch control and scheduling of vehicles and equipment such as ships, excavators, trucks, etc. with the help of Hexagon EAM offers the potential for significant optimization of deployment planning and coordination as well as an increase in availability.
